Sudbury - regional capital of northeastern Ontario

Sudbury is the most populous region of the north. We are nestled in the beautiful Canadian Shield, surrounded by provincial parks and over 90 lakes. Our population and unique geography affords us many great opportunities.

Health Care:

Sudbury's health care centres must be broadly based leaders of research and technology in order to service the entire northern community. We are home to a wide range of facilities. The newest is the Northern Ontario School of Medicine, which is the first new Canadian medical school created in thirty years. Equally important is the Northeastern Ontario Cancer Centre, renowned for advances in cancer research and treatment.

Environment:

The city's history includes extensive activity in the mining industry. Sudbury's success at regreening our lands, and rehabilitating our lakes have been applauded internationally by the United Nations, and locally through Canadian awards. This project continues through the combined efforts of the city, industry and experts including our own Biology professors. It is truly a noble and admirable achievement.

Outdoor Leisure:

You can hike the trails of Killarney Provincial Park, camp and canoe at Lake Superior Provincial Park, or cross-country ski at Halfway Lake (or "Wendy" Lake). If you are looking for more excitement, why not try some Eco-Adventure trips: sea-kayaking, whitewater canoeing, or rock climbing. Rebetika Kennels offers lessons on the care and handling of sled dogs, dog sled training, as well as winter camping trips with their dogs. These are just a few of the ways to enjoy Sudbury and area!

Tourism:

Some annual events include the Northern Lights Festival Boréal, the Cinéfest International Film Festival, and the Dragon Boast Festival. There are also the mainstays of our city, including Science North, the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory, and the Art Gallery of Sudbury. Finally, no northern city would be complete without our fantastic hockey team, the Sudbury Wolves!
